I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Dance from Kyung Hee University, followed by a Doctor of Science degree in Physical Education from Myongji University. I later served as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Dance at Kyung Hee University. Currently, I serve as a Board Member of the Korea Contemporary Dance Association and am the owner of Newyorkpowerpilates in Korea.

I studied under Bob Liekens and received my Power Pilates certification in New York in 2005. Since then, I have dedicated more than 20 years to studying and teaching Classical Pilates, becoming a certified Power Pilates Teacher Trainer in 2018. Today, I conduct teacher training in Korea and internationally in China, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Malaysia.

After many years of teaching Pilates, one of the most important things I have come to believe is that we must see the person before we see the exercise.

I believe we must carefully observe each client’s movement and, rather than focusing first on what they are doing wrong, recognize what they are doing well and the strengths they already have. From there, we can guide each person toward the movement and direction that best meet their needs. To me, this is the essence of true teaching.

A good teacher goes beyond memorizing exercises and their order. We must continually ask: “Why are we doing this exercise?” “Why does it come in this order?” “What does this person need right now?”

When we understand these questions, we move beyond simply teaching exercises and become teachers who truly understand the person in front of us.

I am still constantly learning. The more experience I gain, the more deeply I appreciate the fundamentals and principles of Classical Pilates. My goal is to share what I have learned with the next generation of instructors and develop Teachers who can truly observe, understand, and guide each person in the right direction.
